The Dimensions

How the Facebook UI shapes the guardrails.

Reels branding occupies this area permanently and the search bar and “Your library” appear too. iPhones have front camera cutouts that can obscure content here too.

This is the least critical buffer. You can reduce it slightly if needed since the top elements are less intrusive.

Profile picture, username, description text, translate feature and audio attribution stay on the bottom.

This buffer is optimized to work with the translate popup, but can be reduced somewhat in a pinch.

Facebook does a lot less cropping than other platforms, but it’s better to be sure. Keep all critical elements (text, faces, logos) away from the sides to prevent them from being cut off.

The like, comment, share, and remix buttons stack vertically along the right side. This 140px-wide cluster sits 15px from the screen edge.

Optimal safe zone: 1150px by 1540px rectangle, minus the like button cluster overlap.
Facebook videos, now known as Reels, have a very forgiving safe zone.

How to Use The Template

Step 1: Download the PNG Overlay

Step 2: Import to Your Editor

Open your video editing software (Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Meta’s Edits etc.) and import the file.

Step 3: Place Over Your Video

Drag the Facebook Reels safe zone template to the top layer.

Step 4: Edit With Confidence

Now you can see where Facebook’s UI will appear, and keep out of it. Sometimes going over the safe zone is inevitable, what’s important is you still create!

💡 Pro Tip: Create a project template in your editing software with the overlay already in place. This saves time on every new project!

FAQ

It’s a guide that shows where the platform’s user interface elements, like profile picture, buttons, and text, appear on screen. It helps you frame videos so nothing important gets covered or cropped when posted to Facebook.

The FB Reels player is the most stable and predictable, so this template is very accurate. If your video shot doesn’t fit and you need you more space we recommend going over the top and bottom rather than the sides of the safe zone.

Yes. Instagram is a lot more restrictive; the sides get cropped more, and the top and bottom take up more space. The engagement buttons also occupy a larger area. If you post the same videos on both, use the Instagram Reels safe zone overlay.

Not really. The FB Reels player is strictly a 9:16 ratio with a tiny-tiny crop on the sides. Sometimes it tries to fill the whole screen up to the top, but that’s rare, this template doesn’t cover that occasion.

1080 × 1920 px (9:16 ratio) is the ideal size for Facebook Reels. This format is recommended by all major short-form platforms and provides a great viewing experience on mobile.

If your project uses a different vertical ratio, Facebook will still categorize it as a Reel, but may add black bars or adjust the framing. This template is built for 9:16 videos.
